Position Scope

Job Title : Business Development Executive - Insurance 

Reports To: Managing Director

Location: Nairobi

Salary: ksh. 40,000 plus commissions

Job Purpose: 


The Business Development Executive is responsible for driving business growth by identifying new business opportunities, acquiring and retaining clients, strengthening relationships with intermediaries and corporate clients, and supporting the achievement of the company's revenue targets. The role also provides executive support to the Managing Director by assisting in coordinating day-to-day operations, monitoring business performance, and ensuring smooth execution of strategic and operational initiatives.

 

Job Description

Key Responsibilities
1. Business Development

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities across individual, SME, and corporate markets.
  • Develop and implement business development strategies to increase market share and premium growth.
  • Generate qualified leads through networking, referrals, partnerships, and market research.
  • Prepare and deliver compelling business presentations and proposals to prospective clients.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, brokers, agents, and other business partners.
  • Negotiate and close business opportunities while ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Monitor client retention and implement strategies to improve customer loyalty and renewals.
  • Achieve agreed sales and revenue targets.


2. Client Relationship Management

  • Maintain regular communication with clients to understand their insurance needs.
  • Coordinate timely policy renewals and cross-selling opportunities.
  • Address client concerns promptly and ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Support claims follow-up by liaising with internal teams and insurance underwriters where necessary.


3. Operational Support

  • Assist the Managing Director in overseeing daily business operations.
  • Coordinate implementation of operational plans and monitor progress across departments.
  • Track key business performance indicators and prepare management reports.
  • Ensure timely follow-up on action items arising from management meetings.
  • Coordinate communication between departments to promote operational efficiency.
  • Support process improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and customer experience
  • Assist in the preparation of business plans, budgets, and strategic reports.


4. Administration and Compliance

  • Ensure accurate maintenance of client records and sales documentation.
  • Prepare periodic sales, business development, and operational reports.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) guidelines, and other applicable regulations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of business and client information.

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Insurance, Finance, or a related field.
  • Professional qualification in insurance (ACII, IIK, or equivalent) is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years' experience in business development within the insurance industry.
  • Demonstrated success in achieving sales and business growth targets.
  • Experience working with corporate, SME, and individual clients.
  • Strong business development and sales skills.
  • Excellent negotiation and relationship management abilities.
  • Strong understanding of insurance products and industry regulations.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Strategic thinking and commercial acumen.
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills.
