Position Scope

Job Title: HRBP (Human Resources Business Partner)

Location: Kampala, Uganda

Reports to: Country Manager, Uganda

Primary Purpose of Role

Our Partner company, a key player in the Cleaning and Hospitality sector, is looking for a Human Resource Business Partner. The HRBP will be in charge of day-to-day HR and administrative functions. They will provide a range of generalist HR and administrative activities that support the achievement of organizational objectives, employee support and provide information to management that enables decision making based on evidence.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities

  • Administrative Deliverables
    • Assist the Country Manager in managing relationships with key stakeholders (employees, customers, trade unions, government) to foster workforce engagement.
    • Enhance employee performance by identifying issues, evaluating solutions, and implementing actions, while providing coaching and guidance.
    • Oversee HR functions such as talent acquisition, compensation, benefits, training, records management, health and safety, succession planning, and employee and labor relations.
    • Ensure compliance with employment laws and protect confidential information.
    • Manage client expectations by communicating project updates, addressing concerns, and analyzing time and cost factors.
    • Contribute to improving the department and organization by identifying opportunities to enhance outcomes.
  • Resolve complex employee relations issues and address grievances
    • Collaborate with management and employees to strengthen work relationships, boost morale, and enhance productivity and retention.
    • Recommend new HR practices to improve the effectiveness of HR services and workplace performance.
    • Support recruitment, selection, orientation, and onboarding processes, ensuring all required documentation is completed according to guidelines.
    • Participate in interviews and maintain an updated database of potential candidates.
    • Coordinate staff rotation and secondment activities within the organization.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a succession planning
    • Prepare and submit weekly, monthly, and quarterly comprehensive reports for all departments.
    • Coordinate staff recognition and reward processes.
    • Communicate job expectations, monitor performance, and support staff through coaching, counseling, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.
    • Ensure the HR database is accurate, up-to-date, and compliant with labor laws.
    • Handle monthly payroll preparation and audit to ensure alignment with actual staff deployment.
    • Participate in recruitment and onboarding processes, ensuring all procedures and documentation are completed.
    • Manage staff files and documentation, maintaining effective filing and retrieval systems.
    • Oversee staff leave management, ensuring timely leave requests and accurate record updates.
    • Provide timely advice on wage matters, employment, industrial relations, anti-discrimination, and company policies.
    • Represent the company in industrial tribunals and union issues.
    • Assist the Country Manager with negotiating and drafting Collective Bargaining Agreements, and in developing industrial relations and employment policies.
    • Maintain effective workplace relationships and gather employee data for legal and employment registration.
    • Follow up on payments of final dues for departing staff.

Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • You have formal education in industrial relations, employment law, or a related field.
  • You have strong communication and interpersonal skills..
  • You have an in-depth knowledge of labor laws and the organization's policies and procedures.
  • You have proficiency in using office software programs.
  • You have a valid HR practicing certificate.
  • You have outstanding internal client service skills.
  • You have a methodical and well-organized approach with a sharp focus on detail.
  • You have dependability and a diligent work ethic.
  • You have effective time management and planning skills.
