Position: Junior Associate

Reports to : Senior Associate

 

Job Purpose:

 

Our partner, a leading Law Firm in Kenya is looking to hire a Junior Associate. They offer legal services to individuals, SMEs leading companies and the public sector. They advise both local and foreign clients. The Associate will handle legal matters in the assigned practice area.

 

Job Description

Responsibilities: 

  • Effective Personal and People Management
    • Support Senior Associate and effectively work with others, get involved, and be accepted by colleagues.
    • Express oral and written ideas clearly, convincingly and concisely
    • Work effectively in situations involving shifting priorities and/or simultaneous demands.
    • Seek out new responsibilities and willingly get involved.
    • Maintain effectiveness in varying environments and with different tasks, responsibilities and people.
    • Maintain and promote ethical and firm values in conducting internal and external business activities.
    • Consider and evaluate all relevant factors when making decisions and exercise sound judgment regarding when to refer issues outside of your own authority to more senior staff.
    • Maintain stable performance under pressure and or opposition.
  •  Client Relationship Management: Under guidance from the Senior Associate
    • Develop effective working relationships with clients.
    • Identify client needs and respond quickly with recommended solutions.
    • Consistently deliver value to clients by providing high-quality service.
    • Respond promptly and professionally to requests for assistance.
  • Business Management: Under guidance from the Senior Associate
    • Understand and act in accordance with the firm’s policies, standards and controls; consult with others as appropriate.
    • Work to meet set targets within the department or unit.
    • Maintain good financial disciplines to ensure profitability.
    • Deliver to clients on time, within budget, and to the client's full satisfaction.
    • Suggest improvements to internal processes and services (e.g., quality, cost, response time)
    • Exhibit integrity and confronts unethical actions
    • Judge the sensitivity of information and treat it appropriately.
    • Demonstrate a high level of productivity in work through time and cost control and expenses.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Demonstrate competence in your own area of expertise and keep professional knowledge current.
    • Keep abreast of issues that may affect the industry and the clients
    • Remain current on client's business and industry to ensure that advice provided is sound and relevant.
    • Research and apply, as appropriate, new work-related information that may vary in complexity.
    • Generate, share and apply knowledge to achieve the best outcomes for the company and its clients. Question current ways of doing things, suggest new approaches.

Requirements

  • Minimum Requirements:
    • LLB degree from a recognized university
    • Advocate of the High Court of Kenya
    • A technically strong advocate with at least 2  years of experience with solid exposure to commercial and/or Litigation law practice in private practice or as in house counsel.
  • Experience Skills and Attributes:
    • Broad base of legal practice experience
    • Fluency in English is mandatory
    • Demonstrate excellent writing and communication skills
    • Developed interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively and work diplomatically with Clients and individuals at all levels across the Firm
    • Ability to foster positive relationships with all individuals across the Firm
    • Must have high moral integrity and character
    • Highly organized and good time management skills
    • PC and other relevant technology competencies (e.g., Microsoft applications)
    • Focused on performance and results
    • Poised to work under pressure with very little supervision
    • Focused and inquisitive learner, proactively pursues opportunities to build expertise and skills
    • Desire and ability to learn from and confer on an ongoing basis with other Advocates of the Firm when the handling matters with a view to continuously developing professional knowledge and expertise.
    • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and focus.
