Job title: Paralegal

Reports to : Head of Practise

 

Job Purpose:

Our partner, a leading Law Firm in Kenya is looking to hire a Paralegal. They offer legal services to individuals, SMEs leading companies and the public sector. They advise both local and foreign clients. The Paralegal will perform routine administrative duties for both head of practice and team members.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Type, create and input data on soft copies of legal documents and papers such as agreements, charges, transfers, letters of offer, leases.
  • Track the real estate transactions through various stages including due diligence through to close/registration.
  • Maintain legal files – generate KRA payment slip instructions, ensure completion documents required are obtained.
  • Organizing and maintaining documents in a paper or electronic filing system.
  • Complete various legal tasks, special projects and duties as assigned.
  • Manage legal clerk work schedules across the team.
  • Attend various registries including lands office (country wide), companies registry, county government offices.
  • Issue clerk instructions and follow ups with the clerk to complete the assignment.
  • Legal research on various legal issues that may be assigned by team members.
  • Perform all duties as instructed by the Partners/Advocates/other staff that one has been assigned to as would reasonably be expected of a person in this position.

Requirements

  • Minimum Requirements:
    • Paralegal Diploma, Diploma in Law or any other relevant tertiary qualification suited for the position with demonstrated work experience.
    • At least one (1) year work experience in the area of real estate transactions.
    • KCSE C- in English and Mathematics.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Skills and Competencies:
    • Real estate transactions and drafting experience·
    • Basic principles, concepts and methodology of legal proceedings and legal research.
    • Knowledge of attorney client relationships applicable to the performance of major duties and responsibilities of the position.
    • Problem identification, analysis and evaluation.
    • Demonstrate excellent speaking, writing and communication skills.
    • Strong planning and organizational skills, attention to detail, efficient worker and able to multitask.
    • Outstanding interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
    • Ability to complete legal forms, conduct legal research of laws, draft policies and business correspondence.
    • Excellent legal and factual research skills including online sources.
    • Ability to work well under pressure, as a team member and without supervision in a fast paced work environment.
    • Strong proficiency in technology including the Internet, Email, Microsoft Office applications especially in Word, Excel, and Adobe.
    • High energy and enthusiasm and willing to do whatever necessary to get the job done.
    • Upholds confidentiality and ethical standards of the legal profession.
    • Must be able to effectively multi-task, manage time-sensitive documents and have exceptional organizational skills in a fast-paced environment.
    • Office administration experience.
    • Poised to work under pressure with high energy and drive.
    • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and focus.
    • Self-starter with a high degree of resourcefulness requiring minimal supervision.
