Job Overview:

Our partner, a leading player in the film marketing industry, is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to manage and oversee all financial activities of the company. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for maintaining the accuracy of financial records, preparing reports, ensuring compliance with tax and regulatory requirements, and offering strategic financial guidance to support the studio's growth and creative initiatives.

 

 

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Management and Reporting:
    • Manage all accounting transactions including maintaining the General Ledger and accrual & costings and prepare reports and other financial documents on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. 
    •  Ensure all financial data is accurate, timely, and in compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
    • Inspect account books, statements, ledgers, and accounting systems for efficiency, timeliness and use of accepted accounting procedures.
    • Monitoring all the fixed assets allocating all fixed assets to its business unit & Preparing monthly depreciation.
    • Handling relationships with Banks and preparing the monthly bank reconciliations.
    • Coordinate with the internal & external auditors to provide the relevant documents ensuring that all queries are accurately advised.
    • Providing an internal interface with financial institutions, consultants, and service providers.
  • Budgeting and Cost Control:
    • Work closely with the Finance Manager and department heads to develop budgets and monitor expenditures.
    •  Monitor cash flow, budgeting, and forecasting to support the company’s financial health.
    •  Analyze financial performance and provide recommendations for cost-saving measures without compromising project quality.
    • Track and report on the financial performance of ongoing projects, ensuring they stay within budget.
  • Tax and Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with all tax regulations, including the preparation and timely submission of tax returns.
    • Liaise with auditors, tax authorities, and other regulatory bodies to ensure the company meets its statutory obligations.
    • Stay up to date with changes in tax laws and regulations affecting the media and creative industries.
  • Payroll Management:
    • Manage and process payroll for all staff, ensuring accurate calculations of salaries, benefits, deductions, and bonuses.
    • Oversee payroll taxes and statutory deductions, ensuring compliance with Kenyan law.
  • Accounts Payable and Receivable:
    • Oversee the accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely payments to vendors and accurate invoicing of clients.
    • Reconcile accounts and handle any discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Financial Strategy and Analysis:
    • Provide financial insights and advice to the Finance Manager and senior management to guide strategic decision-making.
    • Assist in identifying potential financial risks and opportunities for the business, particularly in the fast-paced and evolving film marketing sector.
  • Team Leadership and Development:
    • Mentor and train junior accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and productive team environment.
    • Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to support staff development.
    • Encourage continuous improvement in accounting processes and systems.

Requirements

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA (K) or ACCA certification is required.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in accounting.
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures, including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Strong communication, organization, and presentation skills.
  • Strong understanding of financial regulations, tax laws, and accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (ie.., QuickBooks Intuit) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with guidelines and clear expectations
  • Experience in managing budgets for creative projects or campaigns is an added advantage.
