Position Scope

Job Title: Lawyer (Conveyancing, Commercial Law, Family Law, and Litigation)
Department: Legal
Reports to: Senior Partner/Managing Partner

Job Purpose:

To provide legal expertise in conveyancing, commercial law, family law, and litigation matters, ensuring high-quality legal services to clients. The role requires a well-rounded lawyer with experience in drafting legal documents, representing clients in court, and providing advisory services.

Job Description

 

Key Responsibilities:

1. Conveyancing:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate property sale and purchase agreements.
  • Facilitate the transfer of property ownership and registration of titles.
  • Conduct due diligence on property transactions, including title searches.
  • Advise clients on property laws, land registration, and related legal issues.
  • Prepare security documents such as mortgages and charges.

2. Commercial Law:

  • Draft and review commercial contracts, including service agreements, shareholder agreements, and lease agreements.
  • Advise clients on business formations, corporate governance, and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Handle commercial disputes, including breach of contract cases.
  • Provide legal counsel on mergers, acquisitions, and corporate restructuring.

3. Family Law:

  • Represent clients in family law matters, including divorce, child custody, and maintenance cases.
  • Prepare and file family law petitions, applications, and consent orders.
  • Advise clients on family law matters such as prenuptial agreements, adoptions, and inheritance issues.
  • Mediate and negotiate settlements in family disputes.

4. Litigation:

  • Represent clients in court for civil and criminal litigation cases.
  • Draft and file pleadings, motions, and other legal documents.
  • Conduct legal research to support case strategies.
  • Engage in dispute resolution processes, including arbitration and mediation.
  • Attend court hearings, case management conferences, and trial proceedings.
  • Provide strategic legal advice to clients on litigation risks and case management.

 

 

 

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized institution.
  • Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a valid practicing certificate.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in conveyancing, commercial law, family law, and litigation.
  • Experience in alternative dispute resolution (ADR) methods such as mediation and arbitration.
