Job Title: Head of Human Resources

Reports to: CEO
Location: Nairobi.

Job Summary

We seek a strategic Head of Human Resources to lead HR transformation in alignment with the firm’s business goals. The role demands expertise in HR strategy development, risk governance, talent management, and stakeholder engagement to drive organizational performance, compliance, and employee engagement in the insurance sector.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

1. HR Strategy Development & Policy Implementation

  • Design and execute HR strategies aligned with business objectives, leveraging workforce analytics to address talent gaps and future needs.
  • Develop policies that modernize HR frameworks, ensuring compliance with labor laws and industry standards.
  • Implement Digital HR solutions to streamline recruitment, performance tracking, and compliance reporting.

2. Risk & Governance

  • Establish HR risk management frameworks to mitigate legal, operational, and reputational risks.
  • Conduct regular audits of HR processes to ensure adherence to regulatory standards and internal policies.

3 . Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning

  • Oversee the recruitment and selection process to attract top talent.
  • Develop workforce planning strategies to address current and future staffing needs.
  • Ensure fair, transparent, and merit-based hiring practices.

 

 

 

4. Employee Relations & Workplace Culture

  • Foster an inclusive workplace culture through diversity initiatives, conflict resolution, and transparent communication.
  • Implement programs to improve employee engagement.
  • Address grievances and promote ethical practices to rebuild HR’s credibility as a fair and strategic partner.

5. Stakeholder Engagement & Reporting

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align HR initiatives with business growth strategies.
  • Engage regulators, industry bodies, and external partners to stay ahead of compliance trends and workforce challenges.
  • Deliver Periodic reports to the board on HR performance, including metrics on retention, productivity, and training Return on Investment.

6. Performance Management/Succession Planning

  • Design competency-based performance systems with SMART KPIs tied to business outcomes (e.g., claims processing efficiency, customer satisfaction).
  • Develop talent pipelines through leadership programs, succession planning, and technical upskilling.
  • Introduce merit-based promotion and reward systems to shift from tenure-driven loyalty to performance-driven accountability.

7. Learning & Development

  • Identify training needs and oversee the implementation of employee development programs.
  • Develop leadership training and succession planning initiatives.
  • Encourage continuous learning through workshops, mentorship, and professional courses.

Requirements

Requirements

  • Academic Qualification
  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, or related field;
  • Master’s degree in any of the Human Resources,

·         Professional Qualifications/Membership to Professional Bodies

  • Certified Human Resource Practitioner (CHRP) or Equivalent
  • Registered (Licensed) Member of Institute of Human Resource Management
  • Experience: 

10+ years , ideally in insurance/financial services, at least 3 years in a senior role.

  • Skills:
    • Expertise in strategic HRM, labor law compliance, and workforce analytics.
    • Proficiency in HRIS tools and digital transformation.
    • Strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
    • Knowledge of global HR practices (e.g., expatriate management, cross-border compliance).
